The Art of Bruce Thomson

The brief

I'm delighted to share a project that's incredibly close to my heart—a website I've created to celebrate the life and work of my father, Bruce Thomson, a gifted Scottish artist who left us too soon.

Squarespace was ideal for this project owing to its design capabilities, customisation options, reliability, and ease of use. This platform allowed me to create a dynamic and immersive digital space that brings Bruce's art to life. The new website features intuitive navigation, high-quality image displays, and interactive elements to engage visitors and provide an in-depth look at Bruce's creative journey.

A significant feature of this project is the integration of advanced gallery functions and user-friendly layouts, ensuring that each artwork is presented in the best possible light. Additionally, I focused on creating a seamless and enjoyable user experience, making it easy for visitors to explore and appreciate the full spectrum of my father’s artworks.

Another essential aspect of the design (which can sometimes be overlooked in art websites where image galleries can take precedence over written content) is the strategic implementation of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). I carefully selected keywords and crafted engaging meta descriptions to improve the site's visibility and attract more visitors interested in my father’s art.

Designing this art website has been a deeply personal and emotional experience. I wanted to create a permanent digital space that showcases my father's work long after he left us. My father left behind an incredible legacy of art, and we've only scratched the surface. In the coming months, I'll be further developing the site, adding more of his pieces, and cataloguing them more precisely. It's like discovering him anew with each artwork uncovered.
