Where does your data live?

Tick the tools your business runs on. Each one lands on the map at the city where your data sits, with who owns it, whether it trains AI on your work, and the European or Swiss tool I would use instead.

Data in the US or elsewhereData in the EU, Switzerland or the UKWhere the alternative lives

A server in Frankfurt is not the whole answer

A US company with an EU data centre still answers to US law. The CLOUD Act of 2018 lets American authorities demand data from American companies wherever it is stored, which is why Microsoft's EU Data Boundary and Slack's Frankfurt option appear on this map in Dublin and Frankfurt rather than as resolutions. The alternatives are weighted towards companies that are European or Swiss as well as hosted there, and towards open-source tools where the hosting is yours to choose.

I have not left everything either. Claude and Stripe are still in my stack, for reasons given in the linked articles, and Make connects to whichever US apps you wire into it. If a tool you use is missing, use the suggestion link in the picker, or write to me.
